GAA family in mourning as young Mayo man dies in Belgium

John Dolan, a former player with Castlebar Mitchels, has died in Belgium following a short illness.

There has been a great outpouring of sympathy following the passing of a young Mayo man in Belgium.

The death of Castlebar native John Dolan occurred at the Jules Bordet Hospital in Brussels on Thursday following a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.

John, from 66 Knockaphunta Park in Castlebar, is the beloved son of Martine and Paul, and adored brother of Jessica and Mark. Mark is a member of the Castlebar Mitchels senior football team and John himself played for Mitchels at junior and underage level.

“John was a valued member of our club community and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him,” said Castlebar Mitchels GAA club in a statement.

“All at Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club extends our deepest sympathies to Mark and the Dolan family at this difficult time.” 

Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
