'Dedicated and committed' - Mayo club mourns passing of Kevin Gallagher

Kevin Gallagher (RIP).

There is widespread sadness across Ballina this afternoon following the passing of Kevin Gallagher.

Kevin, of Kingfisher Lodge, Drumrevagh, Ballina, died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He had a long-standing tenure with Conn Rangers FC, where he volunteered as a coach and a committee member.

The Connacht Cup tie scheduled for tomorrow between Conn Rangers and Mervue United has been postponed as a mark of respect.

In a statement, Conn Rangers FC said: "It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our neighbour, our colleague, and our dear friend, Kevin Gallagher, has passed away. A dedicated and committed clubman, Kevin made an enormous contribution to Conn Rangers over many, many years, both as a coach and as a hard-working committee member.

"That dedication was never more evident than when Kevin brought an underage boys team to a tournament in Scotland - a brave undertaking at any time! Every detail of that trip organised to perfection in the way that was so typical of the man.

"A thorough professional in everything that he did, whatever Kevin took responsibility for, was sure to be done right. His commitment to the club was again evident when he took on the key role of Children's Welfare Officer, a role that he performed with due care and sensitivity at all times.

"Conn Rangers owes Kevin, Bernie & Aidan a tremendous debt for everything they have done for the club over so many years and today we think of all the Gallagher family as they mourn the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather."

Predeceased by his parents Joe and Kathleen and his brother Eugene, Kevin will be sadly missed by wife Bernadette, daughters Sinead (Manchester), Marie (Scotland) and Lorna (Perth), son Aidan (Ballina), grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Reposing at his residence (F26 VP71) on Monday, December 1, from 5pm until 8pm. Requiem Mass at Church of Christ the King, Knockmore for at 11am, followed by burial in Ballinahaglish Cemetery, Knockmore.
