Number of passports issued to Mayo residents revealed
Over half a million Iirish passports have been issued so far this year.
New figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs reveal that over half a million Irish passports were issued during the first half of this year.
Of these, 7,800 passport documents went to Mayo.
Elsewhere in the West, 3,800 passports were issued to Roscommon residents and 16,500 were destined for Galway. A total of 4,053 passports were issued in Co Sligo.
The county with the most passports distributed between January and June was Dublin on 93,223, followed by Cork on 35,257.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee appealed to Irish citizens to check that their passports are in date before making any travel plans.
She said: "Over half a million passports were issued in the first half of 2026.
"Our passport service is world class and processes applications rapidly.
"To avoid turning up at the airport with an out-of-date passport, please check your passport is in date well in advance of your departure date and ideally before you book your flights."
