New District Court judge assigned to Mayo

Judge Sandra Murphy has been assigned as the new district court judge for county Mayo.
Judge Murphy, a native of Ballinrobe, had been working in District 2 covering south Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim since her appointment in December 2021.
The assignment, which came as part of a Government decision on the assignment of several district court judges, is effective immediately.
It is understood that Judge Murphy will take up her new assignment in September in order to deal with matters already before her in District 2.
She takes over the role in Mayo from Judge Fiona Lydon, who departed her role in this county earlier this year to take up the vacancy in District 7 in her native county Galway.
Prior to becoming a district court judge in October 2020, Judge Murphy worked as a solicitor at Gilmartin & Murphy Solicitors in Kiltimagh and served as a moveable judge prior to her appointment to District 2.
Judge Murphy is wife of well-known Kiltimagh solicitor Charlie Gilmartin and daughter of former Mayo County Registrar Patsy Murphy.
