McDonald's given the green light for Mayo drive-thru
The fast-food giant has been approved for planning permission.
Mayo County Council has approved planning permission for a second drive-thru McDonald’s restaurant in the county.
The local authority has given the green light for the fast-food outlet in Claremorris. It will be the second McDonald's restaurant in the county.
The planning application lodged by the fast-good giant had been on hold following objections from residents and requests for further information from the council.
The site is located along Knock Road, adjacent to the Silverbridge Plaza Shopping Centre.
Local councillor Richard Finn had previously urged council planners to approve the development.
“I cannot stress the importance of such a brand wanting to come to Claremorris,” Cllr Finn told a meeting of Claremorris Municipal District.
He said an “international brand who wants to invest in the area” should be supported.
Objections to the project included concerns over increased traffic, noise, loitering and impact on residential parking.
Following engagement with Mayo County Council, the applicant proposed to feature a two-lane operating system at the restaurant. The change was made in response to concerns regarding potential traffic impacts and access to the shopping centre’s existing access road.
Permission was granted for the drive-thru subject to 13 conditions.
