COMMUNITY NOTES: CLAREMORRIS - WESTERN PEOPLE (JUNE 3 EDITION)

Claremorris man, Luke Gibbons, a current PhD candidate in Law at Trinity College Dublin and Research Ireland Scholar, has won the Educational Excellence Award in the Hi Style Rémy Martin Awards 2025. The award was announced last week at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Cork.

“I’m deeply honoured to be named Irish Man of the Year for Education Excellence,” Luke told the Western People. “This recognition is not mine alone, it belongs to every mentor, colleague and student who has shaped my journey. I’m especially grateful to my PhD supervisor, Professor Deirdre Ahern at Trinity College Dublin, and to the institutions that have empowered me: Harvard Law School, the University of Oxford, Emory University, and the European Academy of Diplomacy.

“I am also grateful to Research Ireland and the Fulbright Commission for funding my research. Thank you all for believing in the transformative power of education.”

Luke received the All-Ireland Young Sustainability Change Maker of the Year Award last November. This prestigious award celebrates individuals under 30 who excel in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability. Luke is also the current Young Mayo Person of the Year.
