Mayo MEP welcomes home first child

Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh has announced the birth of her daughter Nell.

She confirmed her pregnancy back in May, after conceiving through IVF.

In a statement on her social media page, Maria said: "Nell Brigid Walsh, you are loved beyond words.

"My bright, shining light - the meaning of your first name.

"My force of nature - your second name recognising our heroic St Brigid.

"Our village has gathered. Mamó and Daideo already showing you the way.

"To our medical team throughout, thank you. To all the staff at University Hospital Galway, your care was outstanding. Thank you for looking after us so well.

"I feel so grateful, and I am in love."
