Mayo members presented prestigious award from President Michael D Higgins

COMMUNITY NOTES: ERRIS - WESTERN PEOPLE (DECEMBER 3 EDITION)

Congratulations to IWA service users Conor Deane, Róisin King, Sean McGrath, Lorena Doherty and Shauna McAndrew on receiving their Gold Gaisce Awards and three in-centre awardees- Caroline Rowan, Aisling Hennigan and James Maloney with Conor Deane, Róisin King, Sean McGrath, Lorena Doherty and Shauna McAndrew.

Gaisce is the President’s Award where members take on 3 challenges, personal skill, community involvement and physical recreation for 52 weeks and an additional 26 weeks with one challenge area.

Irish Wheelchair Association’s Belmullet School Leavers joined Belmullet Tidy Towns for their community involvement for the 52 weeks plus the 26 additional weeks. They finished up with an adventure journey by kayaking, horseback riding, hiking and staying at Geraghty Farmyard Pods.

Thursday, November 21, the group were invited to Aras an Uachtarain to meet President Michael D. Higgins to receive their Gold Award personally from him. IWA Erris Branch supported the visit to the President’s House. Thank you to all from the Irish Wheelchair Association Belmullet School Leavers Team. Well done to all the awardees.
