Mayo ‘left behind’ as no new Gardai assigned to the county
None of the 194 new Garda recruits will be assigned to Mayo.
No new Garda Members have been assigned to the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Garda Division.
A total of 194 new Gardai have been assigned to stations across the country but none will be coming to Mayo.
Cllr Michael Loftus has hit out at the decision.
“I am deeply disappointed that none of these recruits have been allocated to the Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Division. This decision is a serious blow to our communities and to the dedicated Garda personnel already working under significant pressure in the region,” said the Crossmolina-based councillor.
He said lack of new members will have real consequences including an increased strain on resources, longer response times and a growing sense of neglect among communities that rely on Garda presence for safety and reassurance.
“While Dublin receives a substantial share of new recruits, rural areas like ours continue to be overlooked. I urge the Garda Commissioner and Government representatives explain why our division was excluded,” stated Cllr Loftus.
“Our communities deserve respect and equal consideration. We cannot allow rural Ireland to be left behind when it comes to public safety,” he added.
