Mayo communities mourn passing of 'true gentleman'

Warm tributes have been paid to a ‘true gentleman’ following the passing of Balla man Sean Burke.
Mr Burke, of Prizon Road, Balla, passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family.
He is deeply mourned by his adored wife and best friend, Maureen (née Tonra); his heartbroken children Elaine (Enda McKeon), Karen (Paul McGuinness) and Shaun (Marie O’Grady).
His greatest joy in life was his treasured grandchildren – James, David, Cillian, Kate, Darragh, Emma and Seanie, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Deeply mourned by his brothers Patsy (Mary, Balla), Greg (Lena, Crossmolina) and Jarlath (Mary, Caherlistrane); his beloved sister Bonnie (David McMonagle, Castlebar);
his wonderful sister-in-law Rosaleen (Tom Basquille, Drumganagh); his nephews, nieces, godchildren, extended family and magnificent neighbours.
A gifted tradesman, Mr Burke was proud to spend over thirty years working shoulder to shoulder with lifelong colleagues, whose friendship and camaraderie meant as much to him as the work itself.
Westport GAA club extended sympathy to the Burke family.
“We especially keep in our thoughts Seán’s son Shaun and his wife Marie, his daughter Elaine and son-in-law Enda. Shaun & Enda are both valued coaches within our club. We remember also his much-loved grandchildren James, Cillian, Darragh, Emma and Seanie, who all play with Westport GAA.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Seán’s wife Maureen, his extended family and his many friends during these very difficult days,” said the club.
Scores of other online tributes paid tribute to a wonderful neighbour and man who was one of life’s true gentlemen.
Reposal takes place at Balla Funeral Home today from 5pm -7pm.
Funeral Mass is held tomorrow at 12pm at St Cronan’s Church, Balla, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
