There is set to be a second Public Sector Strike on November 12th, as talks have not progressed following a day of strike action in November.

Unions endorsed a decision by negotiators to reject a pay offer worth 7.75 per cent over 2½ years.

Unions are arguing that pay terms must be agreed before other issues – such as productivity – are discussed, as workers continue to be adversely impacted by the cost-of-living crisis.

If the second day of strike action goes ahead next week, here is what will be impacted in Mayo.

Education

Primary and Secondary schools would be closed on November 12th, along with third-level institutions.

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation, the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland and the Irish Federation of University Teachers are all taking part in the industrial action.

Special needs assistants, who are represented by Fórsa trade union, will also be on strike.

HSE

All non-urgent appointments in hospitals and community settings are expected to be cancelled. If strike action goes ahead, patients will be told in advance.

People who find themselves in an emergency should call 999 or 112 or attend their nearest emergency department if needing urgent medical care.

Emergency Departments, ambulance services operating at reduced capacity, and other critical and time-sensitive healthcare services, including urgent cancer treatment and dialysis, will continue to operate.

Dentists working in the HSE will also join the strike.

Driving tests

People who have a driving test booked on November 12th will have their test cancelled if strike action goes ahead.

Cancelled tests will be rescheduled for later dates.

Who would not be on strike?

Gardaí and the Defence Forces would not be on strike, and public transport should operate as normal.
