Man appears before Mayo court charged with murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Ballina earlier this week.

Liam O’Leary, aged 31, of no fixed abode, appeared before a sitting of Castlebar District Court earlier this afternoon.

Giving evidence, Detective Sergeant Hugh O’Donnell told the court that the accused made no reply after being cautioned and charged.

Judge Fiona Lydon granted an application for legal aid and also granted a request to extend the legal aid certificate if psychiatric attention is needed.

Solicitor Gary Mulchrone told the court there was no application for bail.

The accused is to be remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court next Friday, November 1.
