Major funding boost for Ballina project

Ballina Boxing Club’s development of a new facility has received funding of €382,429 under the 2023/24 Community Sports Facilities Fund.
The Ballina Boxing Club is one of five Mayo sports clubs to receive funding under this initiative.
The other clubs to be funded are: Achill Boxing Club (€18,896), Ballyhaunis Golf Club (€95,440), Castlebar Golf Club (€16,985) and Lacken Community Care (€8,190).
The funding will be used in Ballina to complete the first floor of the hall of the new state of the art gym at the Ballina Leisure Centre site in the town. It follows a previous funding allocation over €238,000 last year.
The news was warmly welcomed as a significant development in the project by Minister of State Dara Calleary.
“I want to congratulate Joe Lavelle, Vincent McMahon and all involved in Ballina Boxing Club who have worked tirelessly to bring the new Dick Hearns Centre to this stage.
"This funding brings the total Community Sports Facilities Funding secured for North Mayo this year to over €1.5million."
“The Leisure Centre site in Ballina is fast becoming a state of the art sports hub with the swimming pool and tennis club also on site,” he said.
