COMMUNITY NOTES: CARRA - WESTERN PEOPLE (OCTOBER 15 EDITION)
On a recent Sunday evening, Ballintubber GAA club organised an evening with Fr Ulick Bourke who is currently on vacation from Tenafly, New Jersey. Born in Newtown in 1936 Fr Ulick took the audience on a trip down memory lane as he recounted days walking to Clogher primary school, his school pals, collecting pennies for the African babies, his footballing days with Ballintubber Club.
He spoke also of the different places where he served including Liberia where he ministered not only to the spiritual needs of the people but quite often he helped the people in practical ways with food, medicine and clothing.
Back in the USA Fr Ulick served many ministries including Provincial Superior of the Order in the US.
Now retired he remains a Mayo Man to his finger tips and often enjoys a trip home to Newtown.
He is wished well in all that he does into the future.
