Letter from Biden to Ballina musician to be auctioned as part of ongoing campaign
The bodhran and letter before they were posted to the White House last May.
A campaigner hoping to bring the All-Ireland Fleadh to Ballina in 2028 is planning to auction off a signed letter he received from US President Joe Biden to raise funds for the proposed Ballina Fleadh.
PRO of the Connacht Fleadh held in Ballina in June 2023 Eamonn Walsh gifted President Biden with a bodhran during his visit to the north Mayo town in April 2023. The bodhran was emblazoned with the words, ‘Fleadh Ballina Invites President Joe Home’.
Mr Walsh received a letter from President Biden thanking him for his gift, which is currently in the White House.
‘The United States and Ireland share a legacy of faith and fidelity to freedom that has been handed down generation to generation and this bodhran is a great reminder of that history,’ the letter signed by President Biden read.
Mr Walsh said he was thankful for the letter, which will soon be auctioned off with all funds raised going towards Ballina’s bid to hold the All-Ireland Fleadh in 2028.
This effort is being spearheaded by Mr Walsh and has already received the support of a number of businesses and companies around Ballina, including Hollister.
