Incredible memories are set to be relived as an iconic Mayo nightclub returns for a very special reunion night.
“Candles” was a legendary nightclub hosted in the amazing surrounds of Belleek Castle in Ballina.
“For so many people, Belleek wasn’t just a place to go. It was where friendships were made, celebrations began and unforgettable nights became lifelong memories.
This August, we’re bringing a little of that magic back,” said Belleek Castle in a post on social media.
The post also features a Western People advertisement on the return of the nightclub 35 years ago.
‘Top RTÉ DJs’, including a youthful Ray D’Arcy and Mike Maloney performed at the return of the nightclub in 1991.
The “Candles” Reunion Night takes place at Belleek Castle on Saturday, August 15. There were be live music, a DJ, BBQ, and a free bus to Ballina afterwards.
“If you danced at Belleek we’d love to hear your memories,” said Belleek Castle ahead of the event.
Club goers have already shared their Candles stories.
“We used to go to Candles Nightclub all the time. It was a long walk from The Quay so many times we rowed my Dad's boat over from the Quay, moored it at the Colonels Quay and up through the woods. I remember one time we went back to the boat and the tide was out...no way could we leave it moored there or my Da would know what we were up to! We had to wade out in the muck to retrieve the boat,” read one post.
“This was the first nightclub I had ever been to in my life. In Ballina for a family wedding in the mid 80s. Even got a basket of chips for my entry ticket. Loved it,” said another.
“Walking home after through the woods was the best craic. Fantastic memories,” recalled a fan.
