Land donated for significant project in Mayo town
Support has been pledged for the project at the highest levels of national government, according to Smyth, while, he said, Mayo County Council has said that planning permission will be forthcoming.
A committee spearheading the building of an ambulance air base in Ballyhaunis will locate its facility on land donated by local farmer and businessman Gerry O’Boyle.
“Gerry is donating the six acres,” explained JT Smyth, who serves with Mr O’Boyle on the committee seeking to build the facility.
The group this summer organised the erection of a monument to local soldier Billy Kedian who lost his life on peacekeeping duty in Lebanon two decades ago. The ambulance base, said Smyth, will be named in honour of Private Kedian.
