Tragic Jason Faulkner is to be laid to rest alongside his late sister, Scarlett Faulkner, who was herself laid to rest last week after she was allegedly attacked with an iron bar on a road in Co Tipperary.
Mr Faulkner, 30s, was recovered by members of Limerick City Fire and Rescue Services at the Abbey River, Limerick City, last Sunday, two days after he was a pallbearer at his sister’s funeral.
Faulkner’s remains will repose at Cross’s Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick, from 2pm-4pm, Thursday, April 23rd.
Faulkner’s funeral mass will take place at 11 am at St Munchin’s Church, Limerick, on Friday, exactly a week to the day his sister Scarlett’s funeral was held at the same church.
Faulkner’s remains will be buried alongside his sister at Meelick Cemetery, south-east Clare.
Members of the Faulkner family, friends and neighbours are to release balloons this Wednesday evening outside their homes at Longpavement Halting Site, Limerick, in memory of Jason and Scarlett.
“Thank you all for all your condolences. This is so shocking for the family and so upsetting, they didn’t get time to process this sudden death,” said Joanne (Josephine) Duffy, the partner of Jason and Scarlett’s brother, Thomas Faulkner.
“They were all just ready to fight for justice for Scarlett, but this sudden death happened, and now the family are absolutely…there are no words, I have no words to even (describe) what the family are going through,” said Duffy.
“They’re all heartbroken, they’re so heartbroken.”
Duffy said: “Tomorrow is Jason’s mother’s birthday and she’ll be in the wake house watching her (deceased) child on the day of her birthday. Last Thursday was Jason’s birthday, when Scarlett was in the wake house.”
“I really hope and pray to God that they get the strength to get through this as a family,” said Ms Duffy.
“They are such a strong family and they’re all trying to be there for each other and they’re all trying to be strong for each other,” she said.
“People are texting me saying they’re are lighting candles for the family, and I genuinely appreciate that because this family need those prayers, they need the strength to get through this, they need to be there for each other and to continue being strong for each other.”
“Jason will get a send off the exact same as Scarlett got, which will be fit for a king, with the help of god. Please say prayers for the poor family that they will get through this.”
Duffy said members of the Faulkner family were due to attend at Nenagh District Court on Thursday, when a 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman are due to appear on remand on charges in connection with the alleged assault on Scarlett Faulkner at Birdhill, Co Tipperary, on March 21st.
“Everyone was supposed to be there but now they’ll be in the dead house with their brother Jason,” she added.
Duffy thanked the local community, who have been “amazing” support to the Faulkner family.
“The community we live in are amazing. Anything that (the family) wants, they are there for them,” she said.
“Thank you all so much, and keep the family in your prayers, please, for strength through this, to help them with this heartache, and for them to grieve two people.”
Duffy and her sister, Aisling Duffy, posted a video on social media advising people not to be duped by fake online pages published in their names, asking people to make a financial donation to the Faulkner family for the funerals.
“Be very careful, there is GoFundMe pages that have been sent from my page and Joanne’s page, and these pages are fake,” said Aisling Duffy.
“The Faulkner family will be funding all their own funerals, they would never ask for any donations and never ask for any GoFundMe (pages),” she said.
“We just want to let ye know that, for Joanne and myself, there are fake pages made, and we would never text ye or ask for any funds, nothing like that.”
Joanne Duffy said the Faulkner family were a “big family and they all have each other”.
“They are going to support each other, they are going to be there for each other, and they’re going to be funding the funeral themselves,” added Aisling Duffy.
