Ireland West Airport Knock 'keeping an eye out' for potential Oasis Mayo visit

Donal Healy spoke to Midwest Radio about the prospect of the Gallagher brothers visiting Mayo.

Oasis fever has officially hit the country as the Gallagher brothers will land in Dublin for their gigs this weekend.

Liam and Noel will perform in front of sold-out Croke Park crowds on Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17.

Furthermore, the Manchester-born brothers have Mayo connections through their mother, Peggy.

Peggy, who hails from Charlestown, emigrated to Manchester at the age of eighteen before she raised her sons.

The brothers have travelled through Ireland West Airport Knock on a number of occasions, explained Donal Healy, who is Head of Marketing at the airport.

"They have always been extremely courteous with their fans and staff at the airport," Donal told Midwest Radio .

"Liam travelled through the airport about five years ago, and there is a famous clip of him joining in on a local trad session in Charlestown.

"We're keeping an eye out here, and we're expecting big traffic on our Manchester and Liverpool services due to people coming over to see the concerts.

"They have a lot of relations in Charlestown; they spent a good bit of their youth in the area, so I'd like to think they might take a visit. It would be lovely to see them come West; there would be great excitement."
