Iarnród Éireann award €24m contract to transform station in the West

Ceannt Station in Galway.
Iarnród Éireann has announced that it has awarded a €24 million contract for the major redevelopment of Ceannt Station in Galway, with works to get underway in next month.
It says the project will ensure Ceannt Station becomes a vital expanded and integrated transport hub in the heart of Galway.
Iarnród Éireann says Ceannt Station is possibly the best located railway and bus station in any of Ireland’s major cities, as it is right beside Eyre Square.
Redevelopment will include:
• Increased number of platforms to five from the current two allowing for rail services in Galway to significantly expand
• New Southern entrance to station creating attractive modern station including new customer facilities, retail units and toilet facilities • New roof on existing train hall to transform the platform and circulation areas into bright welcoming spaces
• Renovations to existing northern elevation, prioritising accessibility and customer mobility
BAM Ireland will be leading its redevelopment into a state-of-the-art transport hub.
It’s expected that construction works will get underway in January, with the bulk of the project set to be completed by the middle of 2026.
Fianna Fáil Senator Ollie Crowe welcomed the news.
“Great news this morning about Ceannt Station from Iarnród Éireann that a contract has been awarded for a major €24 million redevelopment and works will commence next month,” Senator Crowe said.
