Nine new homeless cases were reported in the Ballina Municipal District during May.
Head of the district Declan Turnbull told last week's monthly meeting of councillors that this was an area of growing concern.
“This is a growing area and people are coming in very regularly,” he said. “We are dealing with it as best as we can but we don’t always have a solution for them, sometimes people are able to source accommodation themselves.”
Cllr Michael Loftus asked for a breakdown to be provided at the next meeting of the outcome for homeless cases and where people are placed if they are sent into emergency accommodation.
The Ballina district has reported 35 homeless cases up to the end of May compared to 21 for the same five months last year.
