Hardy Bucks return to RTÉ with new six-part series this autumn

The much-loved Hardy Bucks gang are set to return to screens this autumn in a new series of the cult comedy classic.

Across six episodes, viewers will catch up with the Castletown gang as they navigate life in 2026.

And while Mayo may have ended 75 years of pain and finally brought Sam Maguire home, not everyone is buzzing about life in the county.

Life has changed since the gang were last on our screens, with Eddie Durkin (Martin Maloney), Frenchtoast (Peter Cassidy), Buzz McDonnall (Owen Colgan), Viper Higgins (Chris Tordoff) and Boo (Tom Kilgallon) now middle-aged and facing the realities of adulthood.

The lads are discovering that life hasn't quite turned out as they once hoped, and they are not exactly living the craic they had planned.

The price of creamy pints is still rising, and it is no easier to find a gaff in this economy.

The highly anticipated series will also introduce viewers to some ‘young bucks’ following in the footsteps of the original gang, showing that there may still be shenanigans to be had in Castletown.

RTÉ has confirmed that the series will air on RTÉ2 as part of its upcoming autumn programming schedule.

The broadcaster described the return as one of the season's more ‘eye-catching’ announcements, with the series set to lead its comedy offering.

Hardy Bucks, which is filmed in Swinford, originally began as a college project, with Owen Colgan, Chris Tordoff and Martin Maloney filming the first episodes and uploading them to YouTube in 2008.

It went on to win RTÉ’s Storyland competition in 2009, after which the national broadcaster commissioned the show.

It ran for four seasons on RTÉ2 from 2010 until 2018 and became a huge hit with viewers.

The show's popularity also led to the release of the full-length feature film The Hardy Bucks Movie in 2013.

Now, nearly a decade since the original series came to an end, the Castletown gang are preparing to return to our screens.
