Great interest in Ballina Innovation Quarter with move-in date not far away

The Innovation Quarter is located in the heart of Ballina town centre on a site that dates back to the 18th century.
It is hoped that the first set of tenants will move into the Ballina Innovation Quarter by the end of March or early April.
The former Ballina Military Barracks were transformed into a state-of-the-art business space in the heart of the north Mayo town and expressions of interest for tenants were sent out before Christmas.
Approximately 20 replies were received and while a number of applicants did not meet the criteria for the Innovation Quarter, Mayo County Council and Moy Valley Resources, who co-manage the complex are currently working with potential candidates to move into Block B and C of the Innovation Quarter.
Head of the Ballina Municipal District Declan Turnbull told the Western People the process has been positive and is currently ongoing.
“We have gone through the list and are currently meeting with each of the companies to talk through their requirements and show them the buildings. That is ongoing. We will try and match their requirements with spaces available within the buildings.”
“The informal feedback we have got from potential clients is good. They’re pleased with what they saw and everything is going in the right direction, it is all very positive.”
Mr Turnbull said there is a good mix of businesses interested in moving into the space.
“We have start-up businesses with potential to grow or existing businesses in a growth pattern with potential to grow, who may need a bigger space.”
“The businesses and companies come from a range of backgrounds, some are from the locality and have outgrown their current space. It is quite a good mix of small to medium enterprises and that is what we’re delighted to have.”
They are hoping to be in a position to offer licenses to businesses and have them move in by the end of March or early April.
“We are hoping to see synergy between the businesses that move into the IQ complex to create an entrepreneurial spirit within the complex.”
He said they are working with Enterprise Ireland to try and find an anchor tenant for Block A.
“We’re anxious to have someone in there as soon as possible and we will hopefully have a good, anchor tenant in by the end of the year.”
