Fundraiser for Mayo family who lost home in fire raises over €80,000

The Campbell family's home was destroyed in a devastating fire just days before Christmas

A fundraiser to support a south Mayo family who lost their home in a fire in the days leading up to Christmas has raised over €80,000.

At around 9pm on the evening of Monday, December 18, 2023, a fire broke out at the Campbell’s home in Hollymount.

Kenneth and Tracey, their four daughters Sienna (14), Leah (13), Cadence (8) and Isabella (6) and the girl’s Great Grandmother Kathleen, escaped without injury but their home was destroyed in the blaze and now must undergo a total refurbishment.

A GoFundMe page was setup by Kenneth’s brother Dwayne and Tracey’s sister Laura to help support the family and it has raised close to €83,000 to date.

They explained the circumstances of the devastating incident.

"At about 9pm, the power tripped and when Tracey went to the fuse box she discovered the kitchen engulfed in flames. Thankfully everyone got out safely and for that alone we count our blessings.”

"The house has been extensively damaged just weeks after the house had undergone a complete renovation and it has to be totally gutted and re-renovated again. What the flames didn't destroy the smoke has damaged beyond repair.”
