Fundraiser established to help family of man killed in Mayo road traffic accident

The late Bruno Smits lost his life in a motorcycle accident.
A fundraiser has been established to help repatriate the remains of a Latvian man who died in a motorcycle crash in Mayo.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the family of Bruno Smits.
Mr Smits, aged in his 40s, lost his life following road traffic accident in Ballinrobe on Tuesday.
The single vehicle crash occurred on the R331 at Friarsquarter East, Ballinrobe at around 7.40am.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
The fundraising page aims to help his family return Bruno to his native Latvia and ease the financial burden on his family.
"On the 17th of June 2025, our beloved Bruno tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident.
"His sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his loving wife, Sandra, and their beautiful daughter, Kristiana,” stated the appeal.
It described Bruno as a “kind, caring soul who lived life to the fullest.”
“Those who knew him will remember his warmth, his generosity and the joy he brought to every room.
"He was deeply devoted to his family, and together they created memories through their shared love of travel and adventure.
"We are setting up this fund to help bring Bruno home to his birthplace in Latvia, where he can be laid to rest with the love, dignity, and peace he deserves," the appeal added.
