Patrick O’Donovan TD, Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, officially launched the Maigh Eo Thiar Language Plan today during his visit to the Mayo Gaeltacht.

Alongside this, the Minister visited Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, where a grant of €218,000 was provided last year to facilitate construction of a new astro pitch adjacent to Páirc Naomh Muire in the town; and he also officially launched the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Action Plan.

Speaking today, Minister O’Donovan said: “I would like to commend Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla (CFÁA) - the Language Planning Area Coordinating Group - and everyone involved in drawing-up the language plan for the Maigh Eo Thiar area. As with all other plans currently being implented, opportunities will be provided for the Maigh Eo Thiar language plan to be central in the additional efforts required to ensure that the Irish language continues to thrive for future generations.

“Additionally, I would like to congratulate the community of Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, including the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Steering Committee, the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Culture and Language Committee and the local GAA club Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, on this positive news for the area. What is particularly special about this Action Plan is the strong collaboration from a wide range of community stakeholders, both young and old; and there is no doubt that the newly announced astro pitch will be a fantastic asset for the community.”
