Funding allocated to make notorious accident blackspot safer

Cllr Patsy O'Brien has welcomed €83,000 worth of funding to make the Annefield crossroads in South Mayo safer.
A local councillor has welcomed the news that €83,000 is to be provided for the Annefield crossroads in South Mayo. The crossroads has been a notorious accident blackspot for many years.
Hollymount-based Independent Cllr Patsy O’Brien hopes the works will begin soon.
“It’s something that has been a concern to us as councillors in our area and we have made representations about it on many occasions," Cllr O'Brien told a meeting of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District. "The main problem is sat navs are saying that it is a straight road.
"I have been a long time bringing it up because it is within my parish. Over 20 years there have been ten low-cost safety schemes done in our area and each one of them has proven to work well,” he added.
