Aran Islands lifeboat crew recently saved stranded dolphins.

Two adult and two juvenile common dolphins were discovered ashore near Cill Éinne pier, on Inis Mór, by crew member Ronan MacGiollapharaic.

Following advice from the Irish Whale and Dolphin group, Ronan enlisted the help of Station coxswain Aonghus Ó hIarnáin and coxswain, Declain Branigan.

Using a tarp they carried each dolphin 50 metres through the silt and mud with the assistance of Aran Fire and Rescue who provided lighting for them.

Once back in the shallow sea, the crew members guided the dolphins out of the harbour and into open water.

Aran Islands RNLI concluded by saying, "fair play to all involved".
