New community centre on the way for Mayo town
Mayo County Council have granted planning permission for a new community centre in Ardnaree.
The local authority have given the green light for the proposed works that will see the demolition of the existing Sean Duffy Community Centre built in 1971.
This will precede the construction of a new community centre and sports facility ancillary to the adjacent Ardnaree Sarsfields sports pitch. Also included is a new carpark, connections to services and all associated site works.
Five submissions were received as part of the planning application, however, all of which support the proposal.
A submission made by the Ardnaree Residents Association said a meeting was held in January of this year and a vote of support was carried unanimously by all present.
"The Association, on behalf of all of the residents in Healy Terrace, Abbey Street and Bunree would welcome this proposed upgrade in our community which can only enhance facilities available to local residents,” they said.
