CSO reveals Mayo's biggest earners  

New data on earning has been published.

The average wage taken home in Mayo last year was €47,575.

The Central Statistics Office CSO has published its Distribution of Earnings Report for 2025.

The mean average wage for adults in the county was €47,575, with men (€52,260) earning over €9,000 more than their female counterparts (€43,111).

The highest earners in Mayo in 2024 were men aged between 40 and 49, taking home €58,128.

Elsewhere in the West, the mean wage in Co Galway was calculated at €53,497, Co Sligo came to €49,875 and Co Roscommon wages were €48,826.

Nationally, the county where the mean average for adults between 40 and 49 was highest was in Dublin, showing earnings of €76,702. The lowest was in Donegal with average earnings of €48,461.

Average earnings for men and women between 40 and 49 in Mayo has increased by €2,500 from 2023 (€50,192), and by €13,000 in the last 10 years (from €39,859 in 2014).

The report also revealed that 5% of Ireland’s Top 1% earners are in the west of Ireland, with 2.1% in the Border counties, and 56.1% in Dublin.

The disparity in median annual earnings recorded for employments among males and females varied by county. In 2024, employments among males (€44,065) in Sligo recorded annual earnings 7.7% higher than those among females (€40,911), The CSO said the proportion of women in the top 1% of earners has been on the rise in recent years but men still earned over €14,000 on average a year compared to women in 2024.
