Drugs were found twice in man's house

The man pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court.

A Castlebar man has received a suspended sentence for possessing drugs for sale or supply.

Alan Boyle, aged 51, of McHale Road, Castlebar pleaded guilty at the local district court to possessing illegal drugs on two separate dates.

Gda James O’Brien told the court that gardaí searched the defendant's home on May 20, 2021, following confidential information. Two quantities of cannabis - worth €1,380 and €104 - were found. Boyle admitted he had the cannabis for sale or supply.

Gardaí searched the defendant's home again on March 23, 2023, and found cannabis worth €160.20 and cocaine with a street value of €106.40. Boyle admitted the drugs were for personal use.

The defendant has 65 previous convictions.

Solicitor Patricia Lally said her client had previously been in employment but lost his work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He has engaged in drug counselling and the Prime for Life addiction course to rectify his issues with drugs.

Judge Vincent Deane imposed a five-month suspended prison sentence.
