Cabra Rathlee Easkey Community First Responder Group

After a lengthy process involving Garda vetting, training and administration, the Cabra Rathlee Eaksey Community First Responder Group is almost ready to being responding alongside the Ambulance service.

The group now have 6 fully approved responders ready to answer emergency call-outs and provide vital support to the local community when every second counts. The group thank everyone for their patience, encouragement, and support throughout the process whose backing has meant so much to the volunteers.

If you previously expressed an interest in joining the group, they will be contacting you shortly to complete any outstanding paperwork and bringing you on board.

‘We are always looking to grow our team so we can provide the best possible emergency response across our community,’ said a spokesperson for the group. If you are interested in becoming a Community First Responder contact 085 8426680 on WhatsApp.

Black Pig Run

Registration is now open for the Black Pig Run which is organised by the West Sligo Athletic Club.. The run which is 5km and 10km takes place on Monday, July 27 at 7pm with the start and finish at the Diamond Coast Hotel. Register on Eventmaster at https://eventmaster.ie/event/zmkrlPYSQJ.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the weekly Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto held on Sunday, July 5, were6, 13 and 41. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Diane Lavin, Padraic Scott, Margaret Chapman and Kevin and Siobhan. The jackpot in the lastest draw held on Sunday last, July 12, in Gilroys Bar was €3600.

Annual Grandparents Day

The annual grandparents pilgrimage celebrating the 6th World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly will take place on Sunday, July 26, at Knock Shrine. Chief celebrant is Archbishop Eamon Martin. The day will commence at 2.30pm with the Anointing of the Sick. It is a day of grace and blessing for the whole family as they honour grandparents and the elderly.

Art Summer Camp

Fairy House Handicraft present summer camps for little artists, aged 5-12, from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24, from 10am-2pm and on Monday, August 17 to Friday, August 21, from 10am-2pm, at Kilglass Parish Community Centre, Kilglass.

‘Getting Back to Our Roots’ workshop

Journey back in time to explore plant traditions with palaeoecologist Dr Carla Sa Ferreira, at Kilglass House for a free workshop ‘Getting Back To Our Roots’, on Saturday, August 22, from 2-5pm. The workshop will comprise of a foraging walk in Kilglass House Woodland, learn about traditional herbal remedies, identify edible plants, learn about plant traditions – uses of plants and folklore. Refreshments will be served made from foraged edible plants, and there will be natural tea making (bring your own mug). Booking is essential by texting 083 4461322.

Bright Sparks Summer Camp

Bright Sparks Summer Camp is a week of creative fun including arts and crafts, games, drama and more in a relaxed, friendly environment. The camp takes place at The Old Church, Enniscrone from July 13-17, 10am to 2pm daily. The camp is suitable for children in junior infants to 4th class. Indoor Market at the Old Church

Enniscrone Indoor Market is a perfect idea to visit on Saturdays. The market which is held in The Old Church, Main Street is open from 11am to 3pm every Saturday. Come along and have a look at all the stalls and chat with the wonderful traders. There is fresh vegetables and fruit, oil paintings, crochet, wooden bowls, handmade jewellery, healthy products, personalised frames and cards, gift ideas and much more.

Meet up with friends or family and visit the café, which has a breakfast and lunch menu available. It is open everyday from 9am to 4pm.

Cemetery Mass

The annual Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass, will be held on Sunday, August 2, at 6pm. Mass in Roslea Cemetery will take place on Friday, July 31, at 7pm and Churchill annual cemetery Mass will take place on Sunday, August 2, at 12 noon.

AGM

The annual general meeting of Easkey Enhancement Association and Playground update will take place on Tuesday, July 28 at 7.30pm in The Courthouse.

Cob oven update

Easkey Enhancement Association are delighted that the Easkey Community Garden cob oven. It was a real community effort and they are looking forward to seeing people enjoy using it. The group thank Ryan Harken for showing them the way, Sligo LEADER Partnership Ltd for funding, Rosies Pottery Studio for the beautiful ceramics they used to decorate it and Claire McGuire for giving them her shell collection. The oven is not ready for use yet but they promise to let everyone know when it’s good to go and they will hold a pizza making workshop.

Easkey GAA roundup

It was a busy number of days of all the teams at Easkey GAA last week. On Monday, June 29, the U15 footballers began their A championship campaign with a good win away to St Mary’s. On Wednesday, July 1, the U13 hurlers had a good win away to Western Gaels – their 3rd consecutive win in the championship. On the same evening the U17 hurlers suffered a narrow 2 point defeat away to Tourlestrane in the league final.

On Thursday, July 2, the minor and U15 development teams began their campaigns in the C championship. The minors had a good win in Easkey against St Mary’s while the U15s lost out in Corran Park to Ballymote/Bunninadden in an entertaining game.

The senior players were away to Bunninadden on Sunday, July 5 and the U13 footballers were away to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool.

Lotto subscription due

The yearly subscriptions for the new Easkey GAA lotto term is now due. In the past 12 months, prizes won included 2 jackpots worth €20,900 and €12,500 along with consolation prizewinners totalling €7500.

The lotto has been a vital fundraiser for the club in the past 3 years with the upgrading of the facilities at the pitch, and the club have been very fortunate to have had a consistently loyal and consistently growing customer base for the tickets. Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club

The numbers drawn in the Easkey and Eoghan Rua combined lotto which was held on July 5, were 11, 20, 30 and 40. The numbers drawn in the weekly Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on July 5 were 2, 21, 23 and 27. There was no jackpot winner and the match 3 winners were Noel Brett and Elaine Mitchell. Miggymoos Summer Camp

MiggyMoos Summer Camps which are suitable for school age children are taking place in Castleconnor Community Centre and the 3rd camp commenced yesterday Monday, July 13-17.
