Council to 'review' proposal for village works

Council to 'review' proposal for village works

A local councillor has called for ‘a final investment’ to complete the upgrade of a road through a Mayo village.

Speaking at last week's Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting, Independent Cllr Richard Finn commended the job done by Mayo County Council on the main road from the football grounds to the end of the village in Mayo Abbey. The works took place in the ‘old’ section of the village.

However, the councillor wants the council to complete the remainder of this road to the graveyard and old church.

Council engineer Conrad Harley confirmed that the road will be reviewed for inclusion in the Multi-Annual Roads Programme for 2025-2027 and a decision would soon be made.

“The inclusion of any road in this programme will be based on the condition of the road in conjunction with the number of vehicles using the road,” he explained.

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Patsy O’Brien.

“I’d support whatever the local authority can do to look after our rural villages," he said.
