Connacht GAA Air Dome destroyed in storm

The €3.5 million facility was destroyed by record-breaking winds.

Connacht GAA’s multi-million euro air dome has been destroyed by the high winds of Storm Éowyn.

The record-breaking winds tore the inflated roof off the structure at around 4am this morning.

The Bekan facility, now known as the NUI Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome first opened in 2020.

It has been a remarkable success drawing in teams of all levels from across the region.

Connacht GAA Secretary Paul Prenty has pledged to rebuild the facility.

"The plan is we'll tidy up the site in the next week. We will rebuild it."

The Air Dome, which cost over €3.5m to build was officially opened in July 2020.

Sigerson, Fitzgibbon, and Ashbourne Cup Fixtures had been scheduled to take place at the dome over the coming week.

The National Frisbee Championship, which was to be held in the Air Dome tomorrow, has been cancelled.
