Community amenity open to the public once more

The Salmon Weir Bridge has reopened following a period of repair works
The Salmon Weir Bridge in Ballina has reopened to the public following the successful competition of remedial works to address damage caused by Storm Eowyn.
During the storm on January 24, the pedestrian bridge lost some cladding as a central pole as a result of the hurricane force winds.
The bridge was subsequently closed in the interest of public safety and to facilitate essential safety repairs.
Cllr Marie-Therese Duffy said the works have now been completed in an efficient way, allowing for its safe reopening.
“I am delighted that the Pedestrian Bridge has reopened following essential repair works. The Salmon Weir bridge provides a vital link for our community, and has been missed by so many of our local constituents.”
She said the location is popular and well-used, opening up active travel links in the town and praised local staff for getting it up and running in a timely manner.
