A popular member of the Claremorris Ladies Gaelic football team was among the three sisters seriously injured in the horrific motorway collision in which five teenagers were killed at the weekend.
Niamh Kinsella was travelling with her sisters Ella and Alma and her seven-year-old nephew when their car was hit by a BMW which was travelling on the wrong side of the motorway.
The five masked teenagers who were in the BMW were all killed in the collision on the M9 near Moone, Co Kildare in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Niamh, a native of Carlow, has played with Claremorris in recent years and has left a very positive impression on all in the club.
“Everyone at Claremorris LGFA are thinking of our friend and Junior teammate Niamh Kinsella, her sisters Ella and Alma and her nephew who were involved in a serious car accident over the weekend,” said the club on social media.
“Since joining the club Niamh slotted in seamlessly and is a valued member of the club and a brilliant team mate. We’re sending all our love, strength and support to them at this incredibly difficult time and in the days and weeks ahead. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” they added.
The club also shared a GoFundMe page which has been set up for the family to support them in their recovery.
2FM star Laura Fox has said the will 'need help long after they get out of hospital' as she urges people to donate to the GoFundMe page.
The five masked teenagers, Kamil Pustkowski (17) from Limerick; Jack Kennedy (17) from Athy, Co Kildare; Jeremy O’Brien, who was in his late teens and from Carlow; Joe Carthy (15) from Athy; and Alex McCarthy (17) from Carlow - were killed when the BMW they were driving on the wrong side of the motorway collided with the car in which Niamh Kinsella, her sisters and nephew were travelling in.
The page was set up by Bryan Curley, a friend of Ella.
“This has been an incredibly difficult and frightening time for Ella, Niamh, Alma and their family. They are facing a long and challenging road ahead, and right now, I ask that you keep them all in your thoughts & prayers. All funds going directly to the family,” he stated.
