Castlebar hopes to boost its festive trade with street market

Castlebar will hold a Christmas Market this year.

Castlebar Municipal District, in conjunction with Castlebar Chamber, are planning to hold a Christmas market.

The market will run from Friday to Sunday, December 6 to 8, and takes place at Collectors Lane (Bridge Lane) in the county town. With daily opening hours form 1 to 8pm, the market promises to be a magical celebration of local craftsmanship, food and festive entertainment.

Business and local producers interested in taking part are asked to register their interest and secure a space at this much anticipated event. The Castlebar Christmas Market will be an opportunity to showcase unique, high-quality products to a diverse audience, supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs.

Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Municipal District, Cllr Donna Sheridan, added: “The festive season is one of the most important times for traders and rate payers in the year. By putting on the Castlebar Christmas Market we are looking to give back to those business and see increased footfall and spending in the town, along with having a great day out for people to enjoy.” 

David Mellett, Head of the Castlebar Municipal District, said: “The Castlebar Municipal District is delighted to be able to facilitate the Castlebar Christmas Market this year. Providing supports to small businesses and encouraging people to come and enjoy all that Castlebar has to offer is something that we are thrilled to be involved in.” 

Anne Conlon, President of Castlebar Chamber, said, "We are working with and involving local businesses in this project to improve the look and feel of Castlebar and provide a great atmosphere for retail and shoppers alike in our town. In the build-up to the busier shopping period of the year, we are playing our role in supporting members and local economy."

The Market will feature three types of stalls:

• Arts and Crafts Retail: Handcrafted items, gifting products and art retain stalls.

• Food Retail Stalls: Food products for consumption off-site.

• Catering Stalls: Hot and cold food stalls for on-site enjoyment.

The standard size of a stall offered will be 3m x 3m and a 3m x 3m gazebo can be provided if required to stallholders.
