Car seized on major Mayo road after provisional licence driver detected speeding over 170kph

While Mayo Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a checkpoint on the N17 late on Monday night, they detected a car being driven at 171kp/h in a 100kp/h zone.
When stopped, they discovered that the young driver was an unaccompanied learner permit holder and the car had a dangerously worn tyre.
The car was subsequently seized.
