Céilí by candlelight - how one Mayo town beat the Storm Ashley blues

Where there's a will there's a way! Musicians play by candlelight in Foxford during the town's Traditional Weekend

As Storm Ashley rocked the world outside, one Mayo town carried on with the end of weekend-long celebrations of their trad music weekend.

Foxford Traditional Weekend took place over the last few days and was a huge success for the town.

Although the lights went out in the town, locals preserved and held a ‘Ceili by candlelight’ as part of the Weekend’s events.

The electricity was gone but there was shortage of energy as talent players stormed through the jigs and reels at the Riverbank.

The Singing Barman Sean Connolly sang this beautiful rendition of The Night Visiting Song.

The session generated a unique atmosphere and created wonderful memories that are sure to last a lifetime in Foxford.

Foxford is a town steeped in Irish music and locals are keen to continue to nourish and grow their culture of Irish Music, Song and Dance in an accessible and fun environment.
