BREAKING: All five MEPs now elected in Midlands North West

Luke 'Ming' Flanagan is elected at TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar for the Midlands North West constituency in the European elections. Picture date: Thursday June 13, 2024.
Maria Walsh (Fine Gael), Nina Carberry (Fine Gael) and Ciaran Mullooly (Independent Ireland) have been elected in the Midlands North West constituency without reaching the quota after 21 counts.
A marathon effort by count staff saw the process that began on Sunday morning conclude in the early hours of Friday morning.
Walsh, Carberry and Mullooly joined the already elected incumbent Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan and former Fianna Fáil Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen, making up the five MEPs in the constituency.
Walsh and Carberry were more or less secure for a number of counts now but the race was much closer between Mullooly and Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew, who jumped back into the race after a strong transfer from eliminated party colleague Chris MacManus. However, Gildernew failed to make further material gains from here on out while Mullooly continued to do so, ensuring his election just after 3.30am in the Castlebar count centre.
