Boil Water Notice for Mayo tourism hotspot is lifted
Uisce Eireann has confirmed the boil notice has been lifted
The Boil Water Notice on the Achill Public Water Supply has been lifted with immediate effect.
Uisce Éireann can confirm that, following consultation with the Health Service Executive, customers on this supply can now resume normal use of their water supply.
Members of the group water schemes which were impacted by this can also now resume normal use of their water supply.
This follows remedial works with consistent satisfactory sampling results.
The Boil Water Notice was issued on Tuesday, 14 July to protect the health of approximately 2,557 customers following treatment process issues and high demand at the Achill Water Treatment Plant.
Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann worked to lift the notice for impacted customers as quickly and as safely as possible.
Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill acknowledged the impact of the notice on the community.
“Uisce Éireann regrets the inconvenience that the Boil Water Notice had on the community of Achill, particularly during the busy tourist season at the height of summer.
“I would like to thank residents, businesses owners and visitors to Achill for their patience and support while our drinking water experts worked to lift the notice as quickly as it was safe to do so.
“I also thank the local political representatives and the media for their assistance in sharing the information during the period of this notice,” Colette continued.
