Black and gold? Green and red? Councillors to consider paint scheme for Ballina signage

Cllr Mark Duffy wants improved signage for the Ballina Arts Centre

The old green place name signs on each of Ballina's streets could soon be undergoing a facelift.

Cllr Mark Duffy has called on the Ballina Municipal District to repaint and refurbish the street signs, as well as painting the lampposts around the town.

He said that similar lamppost paintings had been done in Castlebar and it had improved their visual impact.

Senior engineer Declan Ginnelly acknowledged that the street signage has become unsightly and weather-beaten and said councillors should agree on a new colour scheme, such as black with gold lettering, to freshen up these signs.

"It would be great to get this work done early in the year," said Cllr Duffy, who also called for greater signage for the Ballina Arts Centre around the town to "point people in the right direction".

Mr Ginnelly said the council will undergo a review of the Ballina Arts Centre signage to determine any signage deficit and identify if additional signage is needed and will engage with Transport Infrastructure Ireland if necessary.
