Bank of Ireland appeal planning decision

Bank of Ireland is appealing a Mayo County Council decision relating to the relocation of an ATM at its Castlebar branch.

Bank of Ireland has appealed a decision to refuse planning for an ATM relocation to An Bord Pleanala.

Mayo County Council rejected the application to move the ATM at the bank’s Castlebar branch.

Council planners ruled that the building is a protected structure, and as such move the ATM to the right of the existing cash point would negatively impact the front facade of the building.

The proposed works submitted to Mayo County Council involved the installation of a new ATM, along with alterations to an existing window, and removal of a section of an existing stonework plinth.

In their report, planners felt the new ATM would significantly alter the fenestration associated with the facade.

“The fenestration of the windows should be retained in full,” Mayo County Council maintain.

The planners report stated that any proposal to accommodate additional ATMs should revise the existing ATM and provide slimeline ATMS with a vertical emphasis in the existing masonary, or relocate the ATM more suitably along the facade in a manner that does not negatively impact this protected structure.

An Bord Pleanala is to rule on the appeal by April 17.
