Ballina Meals on Wheels is appealing for volunteers
Ballina Meals on Wheels is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic committee members and volunteers as demand for its vital service grows.
Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1969, Ballina Meals on Wheels has been a lifeline for members of the community for 57 years.
The service, which operates from Ballina Community Centre, has never been busier and operates six-days a week. The invaluable operation ensures that the elderly and the housebound can live healthy, independent lives in the safety and comfort of their own homes with freshly-cooked meals delivered to the recipients’ homes by volunteer drivers.
Olive O’Donnell, of Ballina Meals on Wheels, told the that the service urgently requires vibrant volunteers and committee members to meet demand and secure its future.
“Volunteers now are so difficult to get,” said Olive. “We want people to know that we do need help and we are looking for people who have a passion for what we do."
Demand has grown hugely for the incredible service they provide. Ballina Meals on Wheels dishes up 60 meals a day for people in the area.
“The food is cooked better than any restaurant," notes Olive.
