MFA Consulting Engineers Ltd, a homegrown firm of structural and civil engineers, is celebrating a milestone this month as they mark their first full year in business.

Founded just over a year ago, the company has grown rapidly, now boasting a team of 11 highly experienced professionals, with offices in both Ballina and Sligo.

MFA has quickly built a reputation for providing efficient, practical, and innovative design solutions to clients across the region. Managing Director, Mark Forbes, reflects on the journey so far: “We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in this first year. Our team brings a wealth of experience in traditional design methods, but we also pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve by using advanced design software and innovations in structural, civil and roads design. This helps us increase the material and carbon efficiency of our projects, something that is becoming more and more critical in today’s world.” The company also provides specialised structural design to the growing modern methods of construction sector, MMC. By embracing off site construction, prefabrication, and advanced materials, MMC reduces construction time, waste, and environmental impact. “MFA is proud to provide specialised structural support to a number of contractors in the modern methods of construction (MMC) sector. Our expertise ensures that these buildings are delivered according to the required structural standards and codes of practice”, said Mark.

Looking ahead, MFA is focused on expanding its presence and services across Ireland. The firm is now offering its engineering expertise nationwide, handling projects of all sizes across the residential, public, commercial, energy, and industrial sectors, all from their base in the northwest. “Our goal is to provide a responsive and practical design service, whether it’s a small-scale residential project in Ballina or a large-scale energy initiative,” said Mark Forbes.

“Engineering will be essential in delivering the infrastructure needed to support Ireland’s growing population and achieve our climate objectives, as outlined in the Ireland 2040 National Development Plan and Climate Action Plan. Engineers play a key role in developing sustainable energy, building, water, and transport systems for the future.” Mark Forbes also highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure improvements in the region, especially the next phase of the N26 from Mount Falcon and the upgrade of the N17 to Charlestown. “The time has come for these infrastructure projects to be delivered, as the northwest is now lagging far behind the rest of the country,” he stressed. “Developing this infrastructure is essential if we want to attract both local and foreign investment to the area.

Advancing projects like the Ballina ring road and providing simple incentives, such as more town centre parking for startup businesses, will be crucial for driving growth in the area.” Mark also took a moment to express his gratitude to those who have supported the company’s success. “I want to sincerely thank our dedicated and hardworking team, who have been instrumental in helping us reach this milestone. I’m also deeply grateful to my wife, Carmel, and to my family and friends, whose support over the past year has made all the difference. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without them.” He also added a special word of appreciation for the clients who have placed their trust in the company’s services. “Also, a massive thank you to our clients. Their support and confidence in our work have been the backbone of our success and we hope to continue building and expanding these relationships into the future.” Looking to build on their success, MFA is actively recruiting talented individuals to join their growing team. They are offering exciting opportunities for experienced Engineering Technicians, Structural Engineers, and Civil Engineers who are ready to take their careers to the next level. “We’re looking for passionate, skilled professionals who thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment,” Mark explained.

“Joining MFA means becoming part of a positive, forward-thinking design team where your ideas and expertise will be valued. You’ll have the opportunity to work with experienced engineers on diverse projects across Ireland, from traditional residential and warehouse schemes to innovative modern construction methods to large-scale infrastructure improvement works.” For those seeking a challenging and rewarding career with a company committed to driving growth and innovation in the northwest, MFA offers the perfect opportunity. With a successful first year behind them, they are poised for an exciting future, delivering high-quality engineering solutions to meet the evolving needs of their clients and community.
