Anger at vandalism in North Mayo

The signage at the North Mayo Heritage Centre was vandalised over the weekend.

The North Mayo Heritage Centre have expressed their anger as their Christmas event signage was vandalised twice over the weekend.

The not-for-profit organisation, who are based at Enniscoe House, said their signage was deliberately on Friday night and they came back the following night to break it even further.

“Our Christmas Market and Santa Experience sign was damaged and taken on Saturday night. Our Organic Garden sign, which was cable tied to its spot, was taken and dumped in a nearby garden. The Orchard Cafe sign was also taken,” North Mayo Heritage Centre wrote on Facebook.

“As many of our followers are aware, we are a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status. We have to generate our own income to pay the bills, organise events, workshops, etc. We do this through our genealogical research, selling organic produce from our garden, running events and providing educational courses.

“To organise events with no budget is very difficult and the signs we had on display had been repurposed and redesigned by the staff at the North Mayo Heritage Centre using old material and upcycling. It has taken hours and days of our time to put everything together to promote our events and provide a unique experience to the people and children of North Mayo.

“This act of vandalism is incredibly upsetting and has added more work to our already overworked staff.”
