"A warmth you couldn't teach" - tributes paid following passing of popular Ballina woman

The late Christina (Chris) Brennan (née Keating) of the Arches, Ballina and formerly of Tuam

The communities in Ballina and Tuam are united in grief following the passing of Christina (Chris) Brennan (née Keating).

Chris, of The Arches, Ballina and formerly of Athenry Road, Tuam, died peacefully at Mayo Hospice, Castlebar surrounded by her family.

Chris was a popular member of the Ballina community where she called home having moved from her native Tuam.

She was well-known for working at Mocha Beans on Pearse Street and the shop staff paid a heartfelt tribute to Chris.

“Chris wasn’t just a member of staff, she was family. She stood with us from the very beginning, walking through the doors on our very first day back in November 2006, and helped build Mocha Beans into what it is today. For 14 years, right up until her retirement in 2020, Chris gave so much of herself to this place, and to all of us in it,” they said.

“She had a warmth that you couldn’t teach. Whether she was in the kitchen or behind the coffee machine, she had a way of making everyone feel welcome, cared for, and at home. She was kind beyond words, incredibly talented, and deeply loved by every single person who had the pleasure of knowing her.”

Chris is remembered fondly by her husband Ray and children Michelle, Audrey and Lorraine, her brothers John, Paul, Jarlath, Martin and Tony, sisters Patricia, Catherine and Geraldine, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and a large group of friends.

Reposing at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday evening March 20 from 5.30pm to 7:00pm.

Funeral will arrive to St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Saturday morning March 21 for 11:30am Requiem Mass.

May she rest in peace.
