Local Notes: Swinford filmmaker to debut hit documentary in the US

US Premiere

Breege Rowley’s Film All Our Yesterdays will have its US premiere at the iBAM! Festival in Chicago on Saturday, November 22 at 3.30pm in the Irish American Heritage Centre, 4626 N Knox Ave, Chicago, IL 60630. Congratulations is extended to Breege on the success of her film which was first showcased last year at Féile na Samhna in Swinford, has gone on to win the Outstanding Excellence Award at the Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival and was the subject of John Healy’s Podcast in New York It’s Good to Talk.

Gardening Club Talk

Seán Mitchell will give a talk on 'everything you need to know about fruit trees and fruit bushes' on Tuesday, October 28, in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Seán will be happy to answer questions afterwards. Non-members €5.

Mayo Dark Sky Festival

The 9th annual Mayo Dark Sky Festival takes place from Friday, October 31, to Sunday, November 2, and includes formal talks on themes of astronomy, biodiversity and culture, as well as a planetarium, seashore safari, art exhibitions, musical performances and a lantern parade. It is held in the towns and villages surrounding Mayo Dark Sky Park - Newport, Mulranny and Ballycroy. See https://www.mayodarkskyfestival.ie/ for programme information.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on October 20, were; 1, 8, 10 and 19. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Caoimhe Forkan, Kilbride and Michelle Tunney, Cloonlara; €35 was won by The Feeney Family, Swinford and Pat Higgins, Swinford. The jackpot is now €8,800.

Golf Club Card results

Results from the games played on Thursday, October 16, in Swinford Golf Club: 1st Mary Callaghan and Mary Doyle. 2nd and 3rd prize was shared by Matt Duggan, Esther Munnelly, Tom Durkan, Margaret Sweeney, Peter Geraghty and Brian McNulty. Raffle prizes were won by Esther Munnelly, Tom Durkan, Nuala Kilgallon and Philip Moore. Game continues every Thursday night at 9pm.

Indoor Market

Swinford Indoor Market will take place on Saturday, November 1, in Swinford Cultural Centre from 10.30am to 3pm. On offer will be a variety of unique crafts, and special items from talented vendors. Cácaí Acla will be serving a delightful selection of teas, coffees, and their famous baked goods indoors at the market.

Vision Ireland Swinford is seeking the following donations - ladies' handbags and furniture such as chest of drawers, small two-seater couches, small bookcases, kitchen chairs. Living Well Programme

Living Well is a free HSE programme which helps people living with a long-term health condition to manage their symptoms and improve their overall wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis, COPD, cardiac illness, anxiety, etc. can benefit from these workshops. A new programme will commence in Swinford on Thursday, November 6, from 10am-12.30pm, continuing weekly at that time for six weeks. The programme is free but it is essential to register in advance. Remembrance Service for children, infants and pregnancy loss ‘Their Name in the Light’, will be held on Wednesday, November 5, at 7pm in St Anne’s Small Chapel, Cranmore, Sligo F91 R250. Everyone welcome.

KCC 50/50 draw

Remembrance by Candlelight

Remembrance by Candlelight in St Michaels’ Church, Foxford, will be held tomorrow evening, Wednesday, October 29, at 7pm. Join opera singer Sean Ruane and Bernadette Ruddy alongside St Anne’s Choir (UK), Maria Lynn, The Doherty’s and The Doocey’s for a candlelight evening of amazing performances. Scary Walk

Swinford GAA in partnership with Swinford Killasser LGFA will host a Halloween “Scary Walk” fundraiser on Thursday, October 30, from 6pm with proceeds to be split equally between both clubs. Tickets cost €10 + fees and is suitable for all age groups from 6-96 yrs old. Book your tickets ASAP as this promises to a night of freaky fun with lots of scares and traditional Halloween games and tickets will sell out fast. A very generous parishioner is sponsoring a Christmas dinner for those of retirement age, in the Sheridan Community Centre on Saturday, December 13. Active Thursday Club Open Day

Kilmovee Active Thursday Club is hosting an open day on October 30, in Kilmovee Centre from 1 to 5 pm. They will have finger food, live music with Mark Finn, door prize, a huge raffle and a spot prize for the best fancy dress effort (optional). Everyone is welcome and admission is €10. Bingo

Bingo is held in Kilmovee Community Centre on Sunday evenings at 8.30pm, with a jackpot of €1750 on 51 calls or less. The house lotto is €440 and there is a 50/50 draw with a guaranteed winner on the night.

Parent and Toddler Group

Kilmovee Parent and Toddler Group meet each Tuesday from 10-12pm in Kilmovee Community Centre. All parents, grandparents, carers and toddlers are welcome to attend for a chat, play and coffee.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration in the parish is as follows: Monday: Kilmovee from 10am to12pm and Glann from 4pm to 8pm; Wednesday, Urlaur from 7pm to 8pm; and Thursday, Kilkelly from 10am to 2pm.

Irish Dancing

Volunteers required

The management of Kilmovee Community Centre are looking for volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels to residents in their own homes. Your time would be voluntary but your mileage will be reimbursed. If you can spare some time and would be interested in helping out, Kilmovee Community Centre would love to hear from you. Clothes collection in aid of Kilmovee Meals on Wheels

Today, Tuesday, October 28, is the last day to help support the local community while giving your pre-loved items a new home. A clothes collection is being organised to raise vital funds for Kilmovee Meals on Wheels. Suitable clothing includes; re-wearable men's, women's and children's clothing, paired shoes (complete sets only), handbags and belts, soft toys. The collection is taking place from 9.30am – 5pm.

Halloween Kiddies Disco

The Halloween Kiddies Disco will take place on Saturday, November 1, from 4 to 6pm. Children are asked to attend in fancy dress and there is a prize for the best dressed. The admission is €5 per child or €10 per family. Music by DJ Dermot.

Deposit Return Scheme fundraising initiative

Kilmovee Parents Association are delighted to announce the recommencement of the Deposit Return Scheme fundraising initiative for Kilmovee NS for the 2025/26 school year. Thanks to all members of the community for donating their bottles last year and to help achieve their goal. Plastic bottles and aluminium cans with the Return logo can be dropped into the school return bin, which will be placed inside the school gate at the bus drop-off point. Drop-off time is every Monday between 9.15am and 2.15pm.
