Moytura reformed in 2022 with underage teams and an adult Junior team for the first time. In 2022 the Junior team won the Cu Chulainn Division 3, Group B final and in 2023 they were finalists in the championship county final narrowly losing to Ballina Stephanites after extra time.
Dermot Keane along with Michael Varley, Dr Kieran Reilly and the late Jim Deane were the founding members of Moytura in 2006, but unfortunately the club ceased activity in 2014 due to other sporting commitments of the young players. The Covid-19 pandemic saw many of the former players returning home where they decided to approach Adrian Hession to discuss the feasibility of reforming the club. Sean McGahon was contacted and set about contacting the lads and from there the team was reformed with much enthusiasm and energy.
The Moytura men bought into the belief that they could pick up where the very successful underage club left off in 2014. Several of these players competed in the hurling A Feiles’ in 2009 and 2010.
Adrain Hession was instrumental in assisting Michael Varley, Pat Byrne, the late Jim Deane, Chris Delargy, Geraldine Ryan, Catherine O’Neill and her sister Mags, Mags O’Malley, Sean Granahan, and Sean McGahon in training the teams throughout these years.
Michael Varley is the current President and was re-joined by Sean Granahan and Sean McGahon along with Keith Gibbons, Joe Greaney and Michael Feeney to manage the adult junior team since reforming, whilst Donie O’Sullivan, Pat Hourigan and Conor Doyle took over the underage teams.
Many of these personnel also joined the committee since reforming along with Anne McGahon, Naoise O’Loughlin, Irene McKenzie, Carmel Kerrigan, Jacqueline and Patrick Heraty, Alison Horan, Joanne Morley, Ciara Burke, Laura Murphy and Gary Hopkins.
The club also thank Adrian Hession for all his input and help over the last few years and over the preceding years with Moytura.
