Coming together to support one another following a period of great loss. A presentation facilitated by the HSE West Northwest Office for Suicide Prevention and The Mayo Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service, The Family Centre, Castlebar will be held in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Tuesday, September 16 at 7.30pm. This is a two-hour information presentation for adults which aims to provide participants with an understanding of the grieving process, acknowledging the range of emotions people may experience following a bereavement through suicide; knowledge on how to provide support to individuals, families and communities bereaved through suicide; knowledge of available help and supports and how to access them.
Indiscriminative dumping of builder’s rubble has taken place in Kilconduff Cemetery. There is a lot of outrage and upset due this dumping. The culprits who have desecrated Swinford’s Holy Cemetery are asked to come forward and remove the waste immediately.

Congratulations to Derek Kelly, winner of €550 in the August Killasser Community Centre 50/50 draw. €20 spot prizes were won by Mairéad Lawlor, Breege McDonnell and Eddie Durkan. The September draw will be held on Sunday, October 5.
Results of Swinford Community lotto draw held on September 8, had the numbers 5, 9, 22 and 24 drawn. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Mary Donahoe, Callow and Monica Cusack, c/o Tara Café; €35 was won by V and N Murtagh, Tullinacurra, Helen Kilgallan, Midfield and John Moran, c/o Tara Café. The jackpot for the latest draw which was held on September 15 was €7,600.
The official opening of the Brabazon Park Trail located at Swinford Golf Course will take place on Sunday, September 21, at 2pm. All the community is invited to come along on the day for this event. For more information, contact Cathal Kelly or Marie Mellett.
Killasser Community Centre Tractor Drive will be held on Sunday, October 5, starting from Killasser Community Centre. Registration will take place from 1.30pm and the drive departs at 2pm costing €20 per tractor, €10 for second tractor. Refreshments and a participants raffle will be held afterwards.
St Vincent de Paul East Mayo Area Council will host an information evening on September 16 in The Parish Centre Kiltimagh F12W8Y7 at 8pm. All are welcome. This event will provide information to the community on the varied work that SVP volunteers carry out. There will be time for Q&A and if anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, a member will be in attendance to assist. Swinford Gardening Club will host a talk on Autumn in the Garden on Tuesday, September 23, at 8pm in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St. All are welcome to attend. Non-members €5.
Swinford Gardening Club's next outing will take place on Saturday, September 27, visiting St George's Heritage Centre and Costello Chapel (smallest in Europe) in Carrick on Shannon, the Arigna Mining Experience and Ardcarne Garden Centre. Congratulations to the Mayo Karate Academy members who took home 46 medals at the National Kata Championships recently in Dublin. Amazing performances from all the students with 6 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 23 bronze medals.
Congratulations to both the U12 and U14 boys Swinford FC teams who were crowned league champions wrapping up what has been a fantastic season. Well done to all the players and coaches involved.
Congratulations are extended to Adam Campbell on being selected for the Irish U20 National Volleyball team and to Fionn Durcan on securing a silver medal at the All-Ireland KATA title recently. Fionn is a member of Aaron McLoughlin’s Mayo Karate Academy. Aaron is a former pupil of Scoil Muire agus Padraig while Adam and Fionn are current students of Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford. Well done to all involved.
After the success of the Killasser/Callow Parish Calendars 2023, 2024, 2025 another one will be produced for 2026. The theme of the 2026 calendar is Killasser/ Callow from the air. Kilmovee Heritage are hosting a special seisiún with Kilmovee Comhaltas in the Thatch Cottage on Friday, September 19, for Culture Night 2025. Starting at 7:30pm, they will also be joined by recent All Ireland champion on senior harp slow airs John Devaney and singing by Emily Rooney who came 3rd in the senior ladies singing. Admission is free with refreshments on the night.
Fr Padraig Costello's Golden Jubilee celebrations will take place in Kilkelly Church with Mass on Sunday, October 5, at 5pm followed by light refreshments in the Trimoige - Kilkelly Community Centre. The parish pastoral council and parishioners congratulate Fr Padraig and invite everyone to join them for this special occasion.

Kilmovee Community Centre are seeking an enthusiastic and versatile team member to join the vibrant community centre. This varied role involves supporting all areas of the centre's operations, with a primary focus on the popular homework club program. The weekly bereavement support group resumed at Knock Shrine on Wednesday morning, September 10, at 11am in the Family Centre. This meeting provides an opportunity for those who have lost a loved one to meet others who are bereaved and to share and talk about their experience of loss as well as finding hope and healing again in their lives. No appointment is needed.
